Carl Wayne Stricklen

Carl Wayne Stricklen, 74, of Elkview, was called home to be with the Lord Monday, January 29, 2018, surrounded by family at home after a long illness.

He was born January 19, 1944, to the late Ulysses Carl and Freda Wines Stricklen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Bobby Paul Stricklen, and sister Lois Jean Watts.
A retiree of Union Carbide, Carl was also a member of Sunlight Baptist Church and sang and played guitar for several gospel quartets. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was also a Mason, belonging to Walton Masonic Lodge #150 A.F & A.M. He loved hunting, fishing, and wood-working, and made many beautiful things for friends and family.

Carl is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Ann Smith Stricklen; daughter Elizabeth Ann (Gary) Tawney of Newton; son Ronald Wayne (Merinda) Stricklen of Elkview; daughter Amanda Lynn Allison of Elkview; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and brothers Gerald Keith Stricklen, Bill Strickland, David Pauley, and Ray Pauley.

A funeral service will be conducted at Hafer Funeral Home at 1:00pm, Friday, February 2, 2018 with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Visitors will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Stricklen Family Cemetery on Frame Road, Elkview, with Masonic Rites being conducted by Walton Masonic Lodge #150 A.F. & A.M.
