St. Albans scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Red Dragons escape with a 7-6 home win over George Washington in a Class AAA baseball Class AAA Region 3 Section 1 elimination game Wednesday.

After GW plated a run in the top of the ninth inning to go up 6-5, the Red Dragons responded with a RBI single by Chayce Matheny to tie the game and Nick Feazelle drove in the winning run.

Matheny, Connor Fizer, Easton Thewes and Casey Kemplin all had two hits each for St. Albans (23-10) and Noah Cummings scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The Red Dragons host South Charleston on Thursday.

Riverside 8, Woodrow Wilson 3: The Warriors scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a tie and win an elimination game in AAA Region 3 Section 2. Charlie Pierson and Hunter Kozak both had three hits each for Riverside. The Warriors play at Greenbrier East Thursday, needing another win to keep their season alive.

Valley 15, Midland Trail 13: The Greyhounds scored 11 runs in the first inning and held on for the win at home in an elimination game in Class A Region 3 Section 1. Spencer Dean was 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for Valley, Nick Gipson also homered, had three hits and drove in three runs, and Jarrett Wiseman collected three hits and had four RBIs.

Herbert Hoover 17, Clay County 2: The Huskies scored at least two runs in all five innings in rolling to the easy road win in an elimination game in AA Region 2 Section 2. Rhett White was a perfect 5 for 5 for Hoover, Luke Stricker had three hits and five RBIs, Derek Chapman hit two doubles and Gavin Robertson had two hits. The Huskies hosts Roane County in another elimination game Thursday.

Charleston Catholic 15, Fayetteville 4: Dom Martin was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and the Irish remained in the drivers seat in the Class A Region 3 Section 1 tournament with the home win. Jacob Hufford had two hits and three RBIs for Catholic (22-8) and Thomas Blaydes, Sean Lanham and Parker Ross all had two hits and drove in two runs. The Irish rest until Saturday when the sectional final round begins.

Logan 10, Lincoln County 3: Matt Brown had two hits, including a grand slam and the Wildcats pounded out 14 hits in earning the home win in an elimination game. T.Jay Mullins and Connor McGrew both had three hits for Logan (13-13) and Michael Hall and Bailey Ratliff collected two hits each. Nathan Vance led Lincoln County with two hits. Logan hosts Man Thursday in an elimination game.

Wayne 6, Sissonville 4: Cayden Ross drilled a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to cap a furious rally as the host Pioneers remained unbeaten in AA Region 4 Section 1. Wayne (21-4) trailed 4-3 entering the home half of the seventh. Freshman pitcher Cody Fisher had the Indians (13-14) in the lead entering the seventh but issued a couple of walks, reached the 110-pitch limit and had to be removed, leading the Pioneers’ rally. Wyatt Milum (3 for 4) led Wayne’s hitting. Michael Pinkerton, Caden Carpenter and Gage St. Clair had two hits each for the Indians and Zach Robeson homered and drove in three runs.

Poca 16, Point Pleasant 6: Tanner Miller, Evan McKneely and Isaac McClanahan each rapped out three hits as the visiting Dots vaulted into an early 10-3 lead and prevailed in five innings. McKneely drove in six runs for Poca, McClanahan three and Miller two. Ethan Payne was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Thomas Mayes went 3 for 3 with three RBIs for the Big Blacks.

Winfield 8, Nitro 1: The Generals scored six runs in the sixth to pull away for the home win in AA Region 4 Section 1 in an elimination game. J.D. Frampton and Brett Morris had two hits each for Winfield and Peyton Stover and Nick Edwards both had two RBIs. Josh Adkins hit a solo home run for Nitro. The Generals host Poca Thursday in an elimination game.

Chapmanville 8, Scott 7: Kyle Browning drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the host Tigers rallied to win in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 winners bracket. Browning went 3 for 5 to help a 14-hit attack. Also for the Tigers, Conner Mullins had three hits. For the Skyhawks, Nathan Kuhn, Aaron Epling and Cameron Bryant each donated two hits and Peyton Brown drove in three runs.
