CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice recognized the West Virginia Capitol Police on Wednesday for its work during the 60-day legislative session, noting in a press release the record crowds seen at the state Capitol during the statewide teacher strike.
Justice Chief of Staff Mike Hall presented Certificates of Recognition to Capitol Police Director Kevin Foreman and Deputy Director Jack Chambers for their leadership.
More than 5,000 people visited the state Capitol during the nine-day work stoppage, with one day seeing 7,000 visitors. Public Access Points were even closed for two hours on March 5 because of safety concerns related to the crowd size. No arrests were made, and no property was damaged during the action.
According to Foreman, officers had to work 12- to 15-hour shifts for six or more consecutive during the regular session.
