Below are the results of some county-level races in Central and Southern West Virginia.

Boone

In the Democratic primary for Boone County Commission, Brett Kuhn received 61.69 percent of the votes, with 2,037 ballots cast in his favor. Jennings P. Miller and Cecil (Teddy) Silva followed behind. In the Republican primary, Joy Delano Underwood Sr. ran unopposed.

There were three open spots on the Boone County Board of Education, with four people running. Rob Nelson led the election, followed by Joe Tagliente Jr. and Barry L. Brown. Donnie Pauley placed fourth.

Braxton

Kathy Cogar captured the Democratic nomination for county commissioner over Ronald Facemire and Sarah Rexroad. Cogar edged out Facemire by just five votes.

Cogar will now face Republican Melvin Gum, who ran unopposed in the GOP primary.

Dave Hoover, Deanna Bollinger Whipkey and Dolores Wright were elected to the Board of Education in a crowded 11-candidate field.

Calhoun

No Republican filed for the Calhoun County Commission primary election, and Kevin Helmick ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Richard Kirby, Jenna Jett and Horst Motz were the only three candidates running for three open seats on the county Board of Education.

An emergency services levy passed with 67.17 percent of the vote. A levy for a full-time prosecutor was voted down, with 61.26 percent voting against.

Clay

The public library levy for Clay County passed, with 58 percent voting in favor.

Connie Kinder defeated Mitch Deboard to secure the Democratic nomination for county commissioner. No Republican filed to run.

Morgan Triplett, Cheryl White and Dave Mullins were re-elected to the Board of Education. They defeated challengers Lolita Nutter, Jerry Linkinoggor, Nora Lantz, Donna Bird Salisbury and Dustin Stone.

Gilmer

Gilmer County passed all six levies on the ballot on Tuesday. These include the public library, board of health, Board of Education, extension service, senior center, and parks and recreation levies.

As for the Board of Education race, Tammy Huffman, Dave Ramezan, Doug Cottrill and Devin Shackelford were elected over Norma Hurley, Rosey Lyons and Carl Armour.

Rick Edman beat Brett Chapman and Dennis Pounds for county commissioner for the Democratic nomination and will face Republican Lance Woodford, who ran unopposed, in the general election.

In the circuit clerk race, Republican Loyle Tyler Fortney will face Pamela Starsick in November. Starsick defeated Andrew Butcher to grab the Democratic nomination.

Fayette

Cathy Jarrett, a Democrat, was the only candidate to run for circuit clerk.

In the Democratic primary for county commission, Matthew Wender received 65.71 percent of the vote to beat out his opponent, Susie Worley-Jenkins. Tom Louisos ran unopposed in the Republican primary for county commission.

Three spots were open in the Board of Education election, with five candidates running. Gary “Coach” Ray received the most votes, followed by Marion G. Tanner and Pat Gray.

Greenbrier

The county’s Board of Education levy was passed by nearly 70 percent.

In the Board of Education race, Jeanie Porterfield Wyatt, Kay Smith and Hazel Flanagan Reed were elected over Kevin Wayne McMillion and Anessa Sherrod.

Tammy Shifflett Tincher defeated incumbent Woody Hanna for county commissioner by about 350 votes. No Republican filed to run for the position.

In the race for sheriff, Republican Mark Robinson and Democratic incumbent Bruce Sloan both ran unopposed and will square off in November.

Jackson

There were three spots open in the Jackson County Board of Education election. Jim Frazier, Dan Barnette and J. Ben Mize topped the polls.

In the Republican primary for county commission, Mike Randolph received 46.10 percent of the vote, besting opponents Nemo A Boggess and Vince Riffe. Democrat Joe Mullins ran unopposed.

A Board of Education levy passed with 70.45 percent of the vote.

Lewis

In the Democratic primary for Lewis County commissioner, Agnes Queen received 65.29 percent of the vote, beating Bruce Hall Garrett. In the Republican primary, Steve Shriver II ran unopposed.

In the Board of Education election, there were four open spots and eight candidates. Paul J. Derico received the most support with 1,622 votes. Mike Holden, James Flesher and Connie Clem Riffle followed behind.

Lincoln

In the Democratic primary for county commission, Josh Stowers, assistant state treasurer and former state legislator, defeated Jeff Eldridge, who left the state Legislature to run for the post, and Nick Whitten. Stowers received 52 percent of the vote. He’ll face Republican Jamie Linville in the general election.

Three spots were open on the Board of Education election. Four candidates ran. Steve Priestley topped the polls with 30.15 percent of the vote. Fred Curry received 26.68 percent of the votes and Rodney Baker received 25.04 percent of the vote. Doug “DJ” Scarberry fell in last place with 17.90 percent of the vote.

Logan

Two Democrats filed for county commission. With 59.77 percent of the votes, Danny R. Godby beat opponent Diana Barnette. No Republican filed for the race.

In the Board of Education election, there were six candidates and three open spots. Jeremy Farley received the most votes, holding 20.87 percent of the total. He was followed by Debbie Mendez and Pat Joe White. Mendez received 19.79 percent of the votes and White received 18.54 percent of the votes. They defeated Moss R. Burgess, Austin Workman and Diana Sue Adams.

Mason

In the Republican primary for county commission, Tracy Sturgeon Doolittle came out ahead of Dee Dee Sword Rodgers. Doolittle received 68.42 percent of the vote.

In the Democratic primary for county commission, Pauletta Randolph Kinggot received 61.38 percent of the vote, beating opponent K.D. Hess.

Republican Elizabeth A. Jones and Democrat Suzi Caldwell each ran unopposed in the primary for circuit clerk.

In the Board of Education, there were three spots open and seven candidates. Ashley Thomas Cossin, Jared Billings and Dale Shobe were elected to the three seats on the Mason County Board of Education. David Lee Siders, Barry Sharp, Jeff Wittman and Mickey Whalen lagged behind.

A Board of Education levy passed with 63.04 percent in support.

McDowell

Democrat Larry Barber knocked off four-term incumbent Gordon Lambert in the primary for county commission. In the general election, Barber will take on Republican Cody Estep, who secured the nomination over Tom Acosta and Cody Church.

Mike Mitchem, Margaret Beavers and Georgia Muncey West were elected to the Board of Education over Harold Smith and Kevin Wade.

Mercer

Three Republicans ran for Mercer County Commission. A. Gene Buckner won the election with 45.23 percent of the vote, beating Roger Topping and Jordan Pruett. Guy W. Davis Sr. ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

There were three spots open in the Board of Education election. Four candidates ran. Jacinda Santon Smith led, followed by Greg Prudich and Gene Bailey. J.B. Hurt fell in fourth place.

Mingo

Diann Hannah topped the Democratic race for Mingo County Commission, receiving 2,290 votes. Johnny Hager received 1,106 votes and Little Ben Justice received 458 votes. No Republican filed for the office.

Out of nine people running for the county school board, June Glover, William Bill Duty and James Ed Baisden were elected. They defeated Mark Colegrove, Eric Evans, Gavin Dillon, John Warren Preece, Tom Slone and Owen Hinkle Jr.

Monroe

A volunteer fire department levy failed to reach the required 60 percent mark, with the vote getting about 54.5 percent.

In the crowded Democratic race for sheriff, Chief Deputy Kenneth Hedrick handily defeated Richard Miller, Robert Parker and David Teubert. In November, Hedrick will face Republican Elmer Lee Galford, who ran unopposed.

For county commissioner, Kevin Mann secured the Republican nomination over Jeremy Willis by nearly 20 percentage points. Mann will take on Democrat Shane Ashley in November, who edged out Jack Kaluk by just a few points.

In the Board of Education race, Keith Wickline, Everett Fraley and Candy Sabol were elected, along with Sally Wallace, who was elected to an unexpired term on the board.

Nicholas

Democrat Pat Copley narrowly defeated incumbent Ken Altizer in the county commission race. Republican Garrett Cole defeated Tim Clifford to earn his way onto the general election ballot.

In the county Board of Education race, Libby Coffman, Phil Berry and Fred Amick handily defeated four challengers.

Pocahontas

Former West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick ran unopposed in the Democratic primary for county commissioner. No Republican has filed to run in that race.

Among eight candidates for the county Board of Education, Justin Dilley, Sue Hollandsworth and John Burns were elected.

Raleigh

Republican Linda Epling ran unopposed for county commissioner, while no Democrats filed to run.

Charlotte Hutchens, Larry Ford and Marie Walker Hamrick were elected to the Board of Education over Amanda Crookshanks-Kennedy.

Roane

L. Todd Cole, a Democrat, ran unopposed for Roane County sheriff. No Republican filed for the position.

Four candidates ran in the Democratic primary for county commission. David McCutcheon won, receiving 42.72 percent of the vote. Below him were David F. Boothe, Leonard May and Mike Hyer.

Two Republicans ran for county commission. Andrew Corkrean received 53.87 percent of the vote, beating Danny Cummings.

There were three open spots in the Board of Education race. Four candidates ran. Greg Boggs led the polls with 31.03 percent of the vote. James Minney and Jeffrey Mace followed behind. Clerc Daniell fell in fourth place, with 18.12 percent of the vote.

Summers

The Board of Education levy failed, with votes in favor reaching just 41.5 percent.

In the county Board of Education race, Stan Duncan, Kenny Brogan and Jackie Jeffries Farley won seats over Debbie Clark, Richard Allen and Gaye Shaver. Farley edged Clark for the final spot by about 20 votes.

Democrat Charles Saunders defeated Tony Williams in the Democratic primary for county commissioner and will face Republican Jeff Lyon, who ran unopposed.

Stacy Ford won the Democratic primary for circuit clerk over Jennifer Lemon-Richmond and will face Republican Paula Hephner in the general election.

Webster

Democrat C. Dale Hall beat Jerry Hamrick in the race for county commissioner. No Republican has filed to run.

Joyce Markle, James Hamrick and Susan Chericalo were elected to the Board of Education. The three were the only ones who filed to run.

Wyoming

Two Democrats ran for county commission. Randall Aliff beat Silas Mullins Jr. by 19 votes. No Republican filed to run.

There were three open spots in the Board of Education election. Allan Stiltner topped the polls, followed by Doug Lester and Morgan “Mike” Davis followed behind. Perry E Cook placed last.
