An update on the future of several Kanawha County Schools that were hit hard by the June 2016 flooding.

The board of education revealed its latest plans for both Clendenin and Bridge Elementary schools. School board members said Bridge Elementary may merge with Clendenin, with the location set for Elk River Road South. Board members said the county will use a system to place faculty members at the new school and no one will be out of a job.

“This is basically an opportunity to really provide a first rate school for them,” said Charles Wilson, executive director of facilities planning for the district. “It’s going to be south of Clendenin which is where Bridge is located, so students that actually live very close to the new school currently attend Bridge.”

The board still has to vote on merging Bridge and Clendenin Elementary schools.

Construction is set to be completed in 2020 or 2021.
