Barbara Ann Adkins Surbaugh, 77, of Pinch, entered the Kingdom of Heaven into eternal peace on March 28, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House.
Barbara was born on October 15, 1940, daughter of the late Emmett and Maria Adkins of Nellis. She graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1959, where she enjoyed Band, Pep Club, Bible Club and was crowned Miss Bulldog in 1958.
She attended Charleston Memorial School of Radiologic Technologists. She was most proud of assisting in starting the Cobalt Radiation Program. While in school at Memorial, she worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles where she met the love of her life, Charles Surbaugh, married a couple months shy of 50 years.
Once Barbara and Charlie married in 1965 and started their family, she quit work to focus her time on raising her girls. After getting her girls in school, she went to work at Pinch Elementary. She touched the lives of many kindergarten children over the years. Barbara enjoyed being with family and was a devoted Christian. Her time was spent reading the Bible and enjoying her time with dear friends Diana Skiles, Robin Hunter, and Pastor Cherrie Sizemore. Everyone that met Mom fell in love with her and will remember her gentle, kind and compassionate heart.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Surbaugh, and sister, Gayle (Adkins) Bonds; brother-in-law, Dale Webb; sister-in-law, Linda Adkins.
She leaves behind her daughters, Mary Ann (Fred) Saunders, Melissa Surbaugh both of Pinch; sisters, Donna Webb of Beckley, Regina (James) Peters of Pulaski, Va.; brothers, Emmett Adkins of Kansas City, Donald Adkins of Charleston; and her beloved maltese sidekick, Sparkles.
Special thanks to Hubbard Hospice House for taking care of us all during this difficult time.
