Brownie A Parsons, 93, of Charleston, born and raised in Leatherwood, graduate of Elkview High School, passed away March 29, 2018, at CAMC surrounded by family.

He was a proud World War II veteran with the “Fighting Sixty-Ninth” infantry, they were the first unit to meet the Russians at Torgau outside of Berlin, on the Elbe River, in 1945. After returning from the war, he worked at DuPont in the accounting department. Along with his father, he owned and operated the Esso/Exxon on Bigley Avenue. He owned the Amana distributorship and was part owner of United Supply. He enjoyed watching and playing golf and was an avid West Virginia University football and basketball fan. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late John Sullivan and Minnie Belle Price Parsons, the husband of the late Anne Louise Gunter Parsons, brother to the late Irene Parsons Burton, Robert Franklin Parsons and Joseph Parsons.

He is survived by his children, Gary A. (Arlene) Parsons of Parkersburg and Fran (Brent) Bowyer of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Chris (Kara) Bowyer of Denver, Anne Bowyer (Max) Capener of Denver, Anne Parsons of Arlington, Va., and Katie Parsons (Sean) Cronin of Pittsburgh; and three great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life will be held at Bollinger Funeral Home, 420 Lee Street, West, on Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Moutz officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be held one hour before the services.
