Earl Vaughn Drake, 85, of Clendenin, passed away January 1, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.
Earl was the only son of the late Tarlton V. (Tike) Drake and Hattie Guinn Drake. Earl was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Wanda Wyatt Drake; sisters, Naomi Samples, Mary Carper, Hellen Young, Ruth Carper, Hannah Drake and June Logan.
Earl was an employee of Elk Refinery Co. upon returning from serving his country in the Korean War, and later employed by Columbia Gas Transmission with 33 years of service at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Clendenin United Methodist Church. He was a 50-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge #126 AF & AM. He was also a member of the Clendenin American Legion Post 61 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8516.
Earl is survived by his loving daughter and only child, Kathryn Huffman and husband Jeff of Clendenin. He is survived by three grandsons, Justin (Jennifer) Warden, Brent (Mary Jo) Warden, Chantry (Paige) Warden, whom they cherished, and they deeply loved and respected their grandfather, “Pa Earl.” He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Ebby Elizabeth Warden and Jack Warden.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, January 4, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, WV.
Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 4, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Burial will be at Eventide Cemetery, Spencer, with Masonic Rites by Clendenin Lodge #126. There will also be Military Rites performed by American Legion Post 61 of Clendenin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to American Legion Post 61 of Clendenin or Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
