Gary Eugene Holstein, 72, of Charleston passed away Feb. 26, 2018. Born in Jodie, WV. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, ClisieE. and Sadie Carson Holstein, brothers, infant Lloyd F., Jerry, Romie, Larry and a sister, Donna Joyce Holstein.
Gary leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Milodine “Millie” F. Hall Holstein, two sons, Gary E. Holstein Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Elkview and David Holstein of Charleston; two sisters, Billie A. Holstein Webb of Roanoke, VA. and Carol F. Holstein of Fayetteville, WV, a sister-in-law, Christine Holstein of Swiss, WV.
Gary earned a high school football scholarship to WV Tech where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. He was drafted into the US Army before completing an Electrical Engineering Degree.
For the next two years he served his country in Germany. He earned a Master Degree in Education from the University of Southern California.
After returning from Germany he earned another Masters Degree from COGS in Industrial Relations. He was a teacher and principal at H.E. White Elementary School. He was a past Master of the Clendenin Masonic Lodge 126 AF & AM and a treasurer for the Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston. He owned Holstein Insurance Agency at Elkview for many years until health issues interfered and his son, Gary Jr. took up his father’s duties there.

Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Wynn officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Family Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Clendenin Masonic Lodge 126 AF & AM and military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Hafer Funeral Home.
