Mrs. Nina Ruth (Simmons-Crist) Cypert, 85, of Sod, WV, passed away in Charleston, WV, on May 11, 2018, after a sudden illness.

She was born in Clay County on July 14,1932, the daughter of Foster and Jessie Harold Simmons.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie J Cypert; her first husband and friend, Eugene W. Crist; brothers, Roy Simmons and Bob Simmons; sister, Eileen Simmons Blackshire; infant son, Bobby R. Simmons,; daughter, Connie F. (Crist-Alford) Daughenbaugh; granddaughter, Brittany D. Pittman; son-in-law, Everett L. Harvey Sr., husband of Nancy S. Crist Harvey; and daughter-in-law, Linda Tolbert Crist, wife of Richard L. Crist Sr.

She left behind a large and wonderful family and amazing friends to cherish her memory: sons, Eugene W. Crist Sr. and his wife Lynn Crist of Myrtle Beach, SC, Richard L. Crist Sr. of Charleston, WV, Randy L. Crist Blackshire and his wife Jeanne L. Blackshire of Clendenin, WV; daughters, Nancy S. Crist Harvey of South Charleston, WV, Wanda K. Crist Pittman and her husband Roy R. Pittman of Sod, WV, Rhonda M. Crist of Sod, WV, who Nina was caring for after she suffered a series of strokes. Nina and Bernie adopted and raised their grandson, Mark W. Mcdaniel of Sod, WV, from her daughter Rhonda; stepsons, Roy Crist and his wife Bonnie Landers Crist, Russell L. Crist and his wife Crystal Crist, David Crist and their wonderful mother we call “Mawmaw” Phyillis Chapman Crist, all of Clendenin, WV; 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and nine great – great – grandchildren spread out from WV, SC, NC and GA.

She had many friends, Gloria Collias and Oni Revels of Charleston, WV.

She grew up in Charleston, WV, and was a school bus driver for many years for Kanawha Co. She enjoyed her collection of dolls and family time such as making handmade quilts, family cook outs and loved her dogs. Nina enjoyed watching her western shows, Touched by an Angel and Walker, Texas Ranger. She was a Christian and a member of Rensford Missionary Baptist Church in Point Lick. She lived in many places such as Tennessee, Puerto Rico, Texas, Kansas, with her late husband Bernie. After his passing, she then moved back home to WV. She had family all around her and cherished every moment.

Service will be 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Rensford Independent Missionary Baptist Church, 1792 Point Lick Drive, Charleston, WV 25306, with Pastor Edward Jarrett officiating.
