Philip Alexander

Philip Wade Alexander, 83, of Charleston, went home to be with his Heavenly Father January 22, 2018.

Philip was born in Boone County, February 21, 1934, to Everett and Thelma Roach Alexander. He was a member of the class of 1953 from Elkview High School. The day after graduation on June 8, 1953, he started working for C&P Telephone Company as a lineman. He joined the Army National Guard March 11, 1953, and served his country proudly for four years.

He married Rose, the love of his life on July of 1954, and started their family of five children. He continued his career with the telephone company as a PBX Repairman and retired from AT&T with 36 years of service. After retirement, he and Lester Davis formed D&A Contracting and worked as contractors for AT&T. Then for 10 years, he was a contractor as a telephone repairman for DuPont in Belle.

Gifted with the ability to make everyone laugh, he always left an encouraging word to everyone he met. He always had time for his family and friends which were many. The love of his life was his family, grandchildren and his church. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Elkview, and was their former choir director. He had a passion for music and learned to play the fiddle at the age of 72, and joined Brothers of Faith Bluegrass Gospel Group as their fiddle player. He sang once a month to the residents of Meadowbrook Nursing Home. He was a member of The Gideon International, Charleston North Camp and was their song leader. He was an avid reader, reading the Bible, and always the many books ready to read from his library.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Rose Wiersteiner Alexander, and children Jo Ann Dever of Franklin, Paul (Julie) Alexander of Smithville, Ohio, Raymond (Alleise) Alexander of Summersville, Melissa Ramsey of Charleston and Janet (Clarence) Terry of Dunbar; sister, Nancy (Tom) White of Scott Depot; his adopted son and friend, Randy Pence; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren, Philip (Angie) Dever, Janice (JD) Heavner, Aaron (Kendra) Alexander, Michael (Breanne) Alexander, Lindsey (Chase) Baldwin, Emily (Doug) Brazill, Meredith Alexander and Daniel Ramsey; 10 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Lydia, Katie, Hannah, Ainsley, Avery, Kinley, Callie, Paige and Douglas.

Services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Elkview, with Rev. Lee Swor officiating, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27. Friends may call on Friday, January 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
