Jerry David Lacy II and Ely Benton Osborne will join Sens. Joe Manchin III and Shelley Moore Capito in representing West Virginia in Washington, D.C. during the 56th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program Washington Week, to be held March 3-10. Lacy and Osborne were selected from among the state’s top student leaders to be part of the 104 national student delegation who will also each receive a $10,000 scholarship for undergraduate study.
Lacy is student body president at George Washington High School. He formed the West Virginia Young Republicans Club, arranging for 40 students from several high schools to spend the day at the Capitol meeting with the secretary of state and attorney general. He interned for Bill Cole during his campaign as governor. Lacy started an American Red Cross club at school. He is the vice president of the Beta Club and plays baseball for both his school and a travel team.
Osborne is senior class president at Clay County High School. He is president of the West Virginia delegation for the Technology Student Association and is the state winner of the “Most Outstanding Performer” award for his participation in the We the People competition. He is captain of his baseball team, president of his church youth group, and a youth sports instructor and referee. He is an advocate for the Promise Scholarship and is an intern for the Family Policy Council of West Virginia.
