Arnold Edward Cantley, 78, of Alum Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2017, after a short battle with leukemia. Arnold was born on May 5, 1939, to Archie and Lois Flowers Cantley of Alum Creek, WV.

Arnold was also preceded in death by the love of his life for 55 years, Evia Hughes Cantley; brothers, Jerry, Bob and Jimmy Cantley; sisters, Ellen Pauley and Linda Cantley; and faithful companion, Shaggy. (more…)

He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator with IUOE Local 132.

After graduating from Elkview High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving on Guam and Iwo Jima. He had a passion for life, love of God, Country and his family. Robert Wayne Hall, 60, of South Bend, Indiana formerly of Big Pigeon, WV died on December 20, 2017 after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Bervin E. Hall and Faye E. Parsons Hall. He was also preceded in death his brother, Bervin W. Hall and one child R. B. Hall.

He leaves behind 3 children, Jason Hall, Hillary Hall and Ethan Hall as well as two grandsons, Dylan Hall and Julian Hall. He is also survived by 3 sisters, and 5 brothers as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many other family members who also dearly loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Matics Funeral Home P. O. Box 549 Clendenin, WV 25045.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday December 30, 2017 at Matics Funeral Home Clendenin, WV.

Funeral will be 12:00 PM Saturday following the funeral at Matics Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Lee Elmore officiating.

Burial will be in the Hall Family Cemetery Big Pigeon, WV.

He was retired after 31 years of service from WV Department of Highways as a Inspector and Project engineer. Harold was a outstanding Bluegrass Musician, fond of vintage farm machinery, enjoyed the outdoors.

Born on Saturday, November 19, 1932, to Norman W. “Tip” and Julia Ann Ohlinger as an angel placed on earth. Her faith in Jesus rested her heart well in these years, but her strength and courage was unwavering through her life. She was recognized by so many as the friendly school lunch lady, serving the Kanawha County School Board for over 30 years, and as a beloved member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she continued her gift of making loving, lasting friendships. Elsie Ann Pennington Nary, 90, our sweet momma, finished her race on this earth in the early hours of December 23, 2017. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Mom was born May 18, 1927, in the Cane Fork area of Kanawha City, Charleston, W.Va. She was the third daughter of 14 children born to Luther Martin Pennington and Letha Nevada Shuck. Preceding her in death along with her parents are sisters, Irma Cicero and Reba Dunlap. Brothers: Ralph, Carl (Skip), Jess, Robert (Dennis) and infant Franklin Pennington.

December 30, 1945, our mom and dad married in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. While our mom worked various short term jobs early in the marriage, she was mostly a homemaker. Our dad, Patrick Nary, preceded her in death. (more…)
