This summer will mark two years since flood waters ravaged the Kanawha County community of Clendenin, WV.
Since that time the town has been without a library. But that is about to change.
A space inside the old Clendenin Middle School will soon serve as a temporary home for a new library. The library will lease the space from the non-profit group “25045 – A New Clendenin”.
The Kanawha County Commission contributed $50,000 to renovate the space.
People in the community say it is a resource that has been missed.
“I just feel like since the flood and everything happened it has been a long time rebuilding,” said library patron Brianna Bass. “So to have a resource like that is super awesome.”
The original building was damaged beyond repair. Last year the Kanawha County Commission threatened to pull more than $3 million in funding if the library board opted not to reopen a library branch in Clendenin.
The temporary space in the old middle school is set to be open some time in May.
