Elsie Ann Pennington Nary, 90, our sweet momma, finished her race on this earth in the early hours of December 23, 2017. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
Mom was born May 18, 1927, in the Cane Fork area of Kanawha City, Charleston, W.Va. She was the third daughter of 14 children born to Luther Martin Pennington and Letha Nevada Shuck. Preceding her in death along with her parents are sisters, Irma Cicero and Reba Dunlap. Brothers: Ralph, Carl (Skip), Jess, Robert (Dennis) and infant Franklin Pennington.
December 30, 1945, our mom and dad married in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. While our mom worked various short term jobs early in the marriage, she was mostly a homemaker. Our dad, Patrick Nary, preceded her in death.
Prior to failing health issues, Mom was an active member of Keystone Apostolic Church. She believed the apostles doctrine, Act 2:38. She was a virtuous woman, as described in Proverbs 31. Yet a simple woman who loved and nurtured family and friends.
Mom is survived by children, Alice (Larry deceased) West, Patricia (Gene) White, Charles (Donna) Nary, Donna (Jack) Shamblin and David (Rita) Nary.
Surviving grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer Twyman) White, Niki (Wesley) Weese, Jonathan White; Matthew Nary, Mark (Sara) Nary, Luke (Evelyn) Nary, Amber Nary; Justin (Becky) Shamblin, Adam Joseph (AJ) Shamblin, Travis (Becca) Shamblin, Kate Shamblin; Anthony (Tina) Nary, Christy (Christopher) Smith, Patrick (Angie) Nary. Great Grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse, Joshua Weese; Ian White; Kyinlee, Keaghan Nary; Chloe, Blake Nary; Logan Villers, Zoey, Emma Shamblin; Macey, Parker, Allie Smith; Noah, Laiken Nary; Axel Nary.
Also surviving are sisters, Frankie McCune, Evans; Lorena Dunlap, Durham, N.C.; Mrytle Stinnett, Charleston; Cindy (Bill) McCutcheon, Millwood; brothers, Gene Pennington, Charleston; Loren (Chub – Marlene Bryon) Pennington, Hurricane.
A service will be held 2 p.m.Thursday, December 28, at Hafer Funeral Home with Bishop Gary Johnson and Rev. James Chessor officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
