Gerald Hugh Newhouse, 87, of Elkview, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.

He was retired Assistant Superintendent for Pennzoil Company, having worked 31 years at Elk Refinery. Hugh was a graduate of Elkview High School, a member of the Sand Run Gospel Tabernacle, served his country in the U.S. Army. He coached football, baseball and basketball in Clendenin for many years. Hugh was active in helping Herbert Hoover High School Athletics and was inducted into the Herbert Hoover High School Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Newhouse and Effie England Newhouse; brothers, Donald, Wateman and Arnold; sisters, Velma, Ruby, Marie and Helen.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janet Martin Newhouse; sons, William (Judy) Lewis Newhouse, Paul A. (Cindy) Newhouse; grandchildren, Andrea, Cameron (Allison), Jarred (Sarah), Michelle (David); great-grandson, Luke.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Hafer Funeral Home, with Pastor Marvin Welch officiating. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the funeral home.
