Richard “Dick” Byrd, passed away on April 10, 2018. Dick was born in Parkersburg, and he celebrated his 90th birthday on March 15, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 60 years, Naomi Janet Byrd; parents, Merlin and Lillian Byrd; brother, Eugene Byrd; and sister, Betty Hatfield.
He was a warm and caring man, a loving and generous father. He will be sadly missed by his children, Dana Byrd (Becky Ellis), Karen (Rick) Hively, Linda Long, and Jana Lilly (Rick Tilley). He left behind nine grandchildren, and seven great – grandchildren.
Dick is also survived by his devoted wife, Lois Clark Byrd, and her family, Jerry (Marsha) Clark, Terry (Bob) Shiltz and Bruce (Cindy) Clark, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Dick was a business owner in Charleston for many years, working with Esso, Exxon and Chevron Corporation. He was a lifetime member of Canaan United Methodist Church. He also attended Elkview Baptist Church.
He was involved in the Doo-Wop Car Show and was an active member in several local car clubs. He enjoyed antique cars, woodworking, and spending time with his family. The many friends he came to know and love during his long life will miss his kind and warm heart.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at CAMC General, as well as the caring and compassionate staff at Hubbard Hospice of Charleston.
Services will be noon Saturday, April 14, at Canaan United Methodist Church, 401 Roane Street, Charleston. Entombment will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 14, at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice.
