Ruth Roberts Maloney died peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

A Charleston native, she was born June 16, 1923, a daughter of the late Fred S. and Glada E. Roberts. She graduated from Clendenin High School and attended Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston).

She was employed at the Kanawha County Court House, where she served as a Deputy Circuit Clerk until her marriage to Charles R. Maloney, also of Charleston.

Besides being a gifted pianist, she was a loving wife, devoted mom, faithful friend and neighbor. As a youth, she first shared her musical talent at Clendenin United Methodist Church and in plays at Clendenin High School. Although humble with her talent, she loved to share her gift of music with family and friends by playing their favorite songs.

Her caring spirit was always evident in her thoughtful acts of kindness. She was known for her many notes of well wishes, encouragement, remembrances of all kinds and symbolic gifts. She had a wonderful sense of humor which often brought comedic relief and much laughter. A devout Christian, she will remain in the hearts of her family and friends, who remember her with deep love and gratitude.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Maloney; son-in-law, Rev. Lawton Posey; and two very special people in her life: Dorothy Dalton Westfall and Helen Darves Dalton, who she cherished as her sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Bridget Maloney Posey and Sr. Molly Maloney, OSF, of Charleston, and son, Charles F. Maloney and wife Cathy Gim Ng, of San Francisco, California.

Special thanks to the compassionate medical professionals who were so supportive in the final stage of her journey. We want to further acknowledge her esteemed physician: Dr. Jack L. Kinder; Palliative Care Nurses: Vickie Powell, Dodi Bowen; the skilled nursing staff at Hubbard Hospice House; and her faithful friends: Jill Vigliotti, Midge Park, Carol B. Evans and Helen Parsons.
