Shirley Jo Bird Stone, age 61 of Wendell, NC, formerly of Clendenin, WV, departed this life at Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC on March 23, 2018 after a long illness.
Jo was the daughter of the late Lonnie Lloyd Bird and Helen Mae Smith Bird. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carl Bird, Glen “Mick” Bird, Hoyt Bird, John Bird; and sisters, Ruth Litton and Eva Ricketts.
Jo was a member of Reamer Gospel Tabernacle. She is a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School class of 1975. She was employed by Clendenin Dairy Queen prior to moving to NC and retired from Apple Tree Day Care Center, Raleigh, NC.
Jo is survived by her husband, Christopher Stone of Wendell, NC, son, Phillip (Jennifer) Stone of Wendell, NC, daughter, Kristin (Matthew) Cowell of Pottstown, PA; sisters, Carolyn Weyant of Somerset, PA, Betty (Don) Barbarow of Ripley, WV, Patricia Galbreath of Mineral Wells, WV, Mary Bird of Clendenin, WV; brother, Don (Helen) Bird of Ripley, WV; sisters-in-law, Nona Bird of Clendenin, WV and Nancy Bird of Rose, OK; grandchildren who were the apple of her eye, Haley Stone, Riley Cowell, Logan Cowell, Dracen Stone and Brandal Stone; special friend Debbie Buckner and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, WV from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Reamer Gospel Tabernacle with Pastor Clarence Deel officiating.
Burial will be at Smith Family Cemetery, Clendenin, WV.
