William “Bill” Shaffer, 73, of Elkview went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 23, 2018 after a long illness.
Bill came from humble beginnings and learned the value of hard work at a young age. He became very successful building interstate bridges, as well being a self-employed contractor remodeling and building new homes.

He is a member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church, Elkview. He served as head trustee for several years before his health limited him.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Shafer Snodgrass; grandfather, David Shafer, grandmother, Lidia Shafer; brothers, George Snodgrass, Jr., James “Ed” Snodgrass, Dale Snodgrass; sister, Janie Snodgrass all of Elkview.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Kit” Atkinson Shaffer; daughters, Sherry Shaffer Wooten of Palm Bay, Fla., Diana “Annie” Shaffer Dwier of Elkview; son, Carl (Alisha) Shaffer of Charleston, step-children, Archie (Billie Jo) Hubbard of Peytona, Teresa Hubbard (Tim) Weaver of Seth, Nicole Cantley (Inocencio) Hernandez of Bloomrose, WV; grandchildren, Emma Dwier of Elkview, Trace and Clay Shaffer of Charleston, Janie Fry of Seth, Hollie Hubbard (Bill) Carroll of Peytona, WV, Nicholas Weaver (Destiny) of Seth, Dylan Hodges of Bloomingrose, WV, Karla (Pelcastro) Hernandez of Salem, VA, Brent Hubbard of Bonne County; sisters, Elenita Miller of Maryland, Betty Santiago of Charleston; brother, Richard (Melody) Snodgrass of Sissonville; great grandchildren, Logan Castle of Peytona, WV, Nevaeh and Aiden Weaver of Seth, WV. Bill is also survived by his loyal dog, Daisy and cat, Mikey. Also, beloved dog, Maggie who has gone on to Heaven.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family and extended family members. Bill will be missed by all .

A special thank you to Hubbard Hospice House as well as our family who helped us through such a trying time.

Service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Petry officiating Burial will be at the Mark Shafer Cemetery, Clendenin.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the funeral home.
