DRUG POSSESSION: Following a traffic stop, a sheriff’s deputy arrested Casey M. Shamblin, 33, of Clendenin, West Virginia, on charges of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and a misdemeanor charge of drug possession. Authorities recovered a loaded firearm and a speed loader in the vehicle.

More to join suit against re-training program for coal miners and others in Beckley and Clendenin

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) There was new fallout on Wednesday for a non-profit claiming to train out-of-work miners and other for high-paying tech jobs. Mined Minds, a non-profit operating out of Beckley and Clendenin, W.Va. is being sued for breach of contract and fraud, among other allegations by Beckley attorneys Adam Taylor and Stephen New. The suit claims the program over-promised and under-delivered when it came to both job placement and pay.

A day after three Beckley students announced they were joining the suit, another student from Mined Minds Clendenin class said Wednesday he too will be joining. (more…)

A Clendenin man accused of killing one of his neighbors pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges against him Wednesday.

Randall Douglas Woods, 62, was indicted last week on one count each of first-degree murder, malicious wounding and wanton endangerment. (more…)

Holiday charities, Martha Elementary Service Learning Project

MARTHA ELEMENTARY SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT: Students at Martha Elementary are raising money to help Bridge Clendenin Elementary recover from the 2016 floods. The students designed individual quilt blocks of West Virginia symbols, which were then quilted into seven quilts by local award-winning quilter Wilanna Wales. Students are selling chances to win the quilts, $5 for one chance; $10 for three chances; $20 for 10 chances; $50 for 30 chances; and $100 for 100 chances. To purchase chances, contact the school at 304-733-3027. The drawing will be Dec. 14; you do not need to be present to win.

Clay County native completes student teaching for Glenville State College

Kaitlyn Samples of Procious has recently completed her student teaching internship for Glenville State College.

Samples completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Amber Frashure and Tayna Stewart. Don Sheets and Dr. Shelly Ratliff were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Clifford and Deborah Samples of Procious. She currently resides in Clendenin with her husband Jacob. (more…)

Lease negotiations underway to bring back Clendenin Library Branch

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) — They’ve got the books and computers and now they’re one step closer to having the space.

Kanawha County Library Board Members voted Monday to enter into a lease agreement to open up a new Clendenin branch.

The agreement would give them space on the first floor of the former Clendenin Middle School. (more…)
