West Virginia Natural Resources Police investigating after man and his dog shot

Natural Resources Police in Clay County are asking for public assistance with identifying the person responsible for shooting and wounding a man and his dog.

The 61-year-old man was walking his 10-year-old border collie through the woods on his property in Bickmore about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 12 when they were shot, according to a post on West Virginia Natural Resources Police’s Facebook page.

The unidentified shooter fled the scene on foot. (more…)

Copper thieves halt progress on Herbert Hoover locker room project

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Since floodwaters destroyed their locker room in June 2016, the Herbert Hoover baseball team has had to get dressed in the press box.

It’s why coach JR Oliver was excited that work transforming a new space into a real locker room was about to begin.

“It was gonna be more of a normal season this year, compared to last year after the flood,” Oliver said.

But now that project is up in the air all because of cooper thieves. Dozens of feet of copper wiring was stolen during the weekend. There is no power at the field. (more…)

Crews battle trailer fire Sunday night

PINCH, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Multiple fire departments are battling a fully involved trailer fire in Pinch.

Dispatch tells WSAZ it’s in the 1500 block of New Hope Road. The call to 911 came in just after 9:00 Sunday night.

We’re told Pinch Volunteer Fire Department, Kanawha Ambulance, Frame Volunteer Fire Department and Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department is on scene.

There’s no word on any injuries.

Point grapplers split tri-match

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — More highs than lows … even though they ended up in the middle.

The Point Pleasant wrestling team went 1-1 overall and posted 15 wins in 28 total contests on Thursday night during a tri-match against Independence and host Herbert Hoover in Kanawha County.

The Big Blacks went 11-3 while earning a 57-15 victory over the Huskies, but the defending Class AA state champion Patriots won 10 of their 14 matches against PPHS en route to a 53-19 decision. No final tally was available for the IHS head-to-head match with Herbert Hoover. (more…)

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. James A. Hoyer, and partners from six colleges and universities within the state signed a memorandum of understanding Dec. 14, 2017 to develop a first-of-its-kind cooperative program between the WVNG’s Fitness Training Program and students in health science areas of study.

Through the MoU, students attending West Virginia State University, University of Charleston, Marshall University, West Virginia University, Shepherd University, and Davis and Elkins College will have the opportunity to earn on-the-job training hours by working with Guard units, members and their families participating in the WVNG’s Fitness Training Program, a program designed to provide a holistic approach to physical fitness and wellness.
