Broncin Huffman, 78, of Elkview, passed away March 15, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, surrounded by his family. He was born October 1, 1939, to the late Lonnie Leo and Belva Huffman.

Broncin was longtime member of Sandy Knob Community Church, Long Ridge; he also played the bongos with his sister and sister in Christ at several churches in the community. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a special love for animals.

In addition to his parents, Broncin was preceded in death by his niece, Tammie Webb.

He is survived by his brothers, Ira (Carolyn), Bert (Dellie) and Dana (Joann) Huffman; sister, Gloria (Charles E. Jr.) Newhouse; nieces, Linda Newhouse, Luwana (David) Smith and Cathy (Brian) Canterbury; nephew, Bert Huffman; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hubbard Hospice House and staff for the care given to Broncin and his family.

They would also like to send a special appreciation to Joe Woda from Gentiva for the remarkable care given to Broncin for many years.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Hafer Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Burial will be in the Tickle Cemetery, Frame.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the funeral home.

Larry Allen Ross, 76, of Leon, formerly of Elkview, W.Va., passed away surrounded by family members at the King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland, Ky., on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. He was born on November 8, 1941, in Coco, W.Va.., son of the late Jerry O. and Nora Olive Cross Ross. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dana, Jerry, Billy and Clarence Ross; sisters, Dottie Lynch and Frances Leftwich; and a very special niece, Kendra Olivia Saunders. He is survived by his brothers, Gwynn, Dickie (Barbara), Raymond, and David (Sharon) Ross; sisters, Barbara Pritt, Kay Truman, Becky (Joe) Crockett and Debbie (Pete) Saunders; sisters-in-law, Wanda and Linda Ross; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Obituary-Deloris Jean Ratliff

Deloris Jean Ratliff, 72, of Campbell’s Creek, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at home with her family by her side.

Deloris was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She attended Grace Freewill Baptist Church and was a helper of the churches women’s group, Ladies Helping Hands.

She was born to the late Charles and Roberta Myers. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Sue Smith.

Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Ricky Ratliff; sons, Glen II (Kimmi) Smith and Austin Ratliff; daughters, Melissa Lynn (Danny) Totten, Teresa (Brad) Whittington and Megan Unik; brothers, Billy (Gletta) Myers and Dallas (Patty) Myers; sister, Betty Jones, eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The Ratliff family would like to thank the staff of Hubbard Hospice House for their love and care for Deloris during her time of need.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Elk Hills Memorial Park, with Pastor Charles Swiney officiating.

Visitation will be welcome 20 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery.

Lucille Mae Chandler, 91, of Clendenin, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.

She was the daughter of the late John Tully Friend and Rosa Beulah Breedlove Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband, H. Eugene Chandler; and son, Robert Eugene Chandler.

Lucille was a 40-year member U.F.C.W.–AFL-CIO Local 347, Steward, 25 years; employed Kroger Co., 34 years, Department Head; past Matriarch Elk L.E.A. Number 63, past Deputy; past Rebekah Assembly President of WV; member of Clendenin United Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher, 13 years; member of the Kanawha Co. Executive Committee; past President Clendenin Woman’s Club; Organizer and past President Clay County Woman’s Club, 50 years; member of WVFWC; current President National Silver Haired Legislature; current Senator National Silver Haired Congress. Lou has dedicated her life to Community Service and Political Party of her choice.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin. The funeral will be noon Saturday, March 17, at Matics Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Larue officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, WV.

On March 11, 2018 Janet Lea (Hunt) Cunningham 83, peacefully slipped away into eternity with her family by her side at Hospice Hubbard House after a brief illness.

She was born on June 20, 1934 and grew up in Clendenin. After marrying her surviving husband, of 64 years, she and Charles settled in Pinch where she spent her life raising their five children. (more…)

Carolyn S. Burdette, 78, of Charleston, passed away March 9, 2018, after a long illness.

She was born March 20, 1939, in Charleston, daughter of the late Earl and Daisy Johnson Haddox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles H. Burdette; sisters, JoAnn, Betty and Gladys; brothers, Don, Bill, Frank, Jim and Bob.

Surviving: daughter, Connie (Gary) Atkins of Sissonville; sons, Charles H. “Chuck” Jr. (Shirley) Burdette and Mike (Sheila) Burdette of Charleston; four grandchildren, Chris, Casey, Derek, Heather and Aaron; and three great-grandchildren, Alicia, Noah and River; sisters, Juanita Cagle of Beavercreek, Ohio, Nancy Fields of Elkview and Patty Harper of Dunbar.

She was a graduate of Charleston High School and a retired Kanawha County Kindergarten Aid. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the Hafer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Cedar Ridge Center, Sissonville, for the love and care given to Carolyn.

Ernest Gene Mullins, 67, of Clendenin, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 9, 2018, at CAMC Memorial after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Albert and Nona Bodkins Mullins. He was also preceded in death by his son, Matthew Allan Mullins; and brother, John Edward Mullins; and great-granddaughter, Savannah White.

Gene attended Reamer Hill Community Church in Clendenin. He was a retired employee of Clendenin Water Works.

He is survived by wife, Sharry K. Roush Mullins; children, Debbie Lynn Jeffrey (Jay), Ernest (Big Boy) Gene Mullins II (Kellie), Skip Mullins (Brandy), LaNette Marie Rouse (Adam), Katie Michelle Adkins (Patrick) and Julie Ann Chin; brother, Harley Mullins (Brenda); and sister, Eunice Pearl Dutchnowski (Jim); many grandchildren and several great – grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, WV. The funeral will also be at the funeral home, 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, with Pastor Tobby Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Mullins – Roush Cemetery Clendenin, WV.
