Taylor Bonnett struck out eight en route to a three-hitter as top-seeded Poca blanked third-seeded Point Pleasant 2-0 in the Class AA Region 4 Section 1 softball tournament Thursday in Poca.

Bonnett doubled for the Dots (21-8), while Molly Collins knocked in a run and Tori Gibeaut went 3 for 4.

Izzy King doubled for the Big Blacks, and starter Leah Cochran tallied 10 strikeouts.

Point Pleasant plays the winner of Nitro-Wayne on Saturday, with Poca taking on the winner of that game Monday.

Herbert Hoover 6, Lewis County 0: Delani Buckner fanned 12 on her way to a no-hit shutout as top-seeded Herbert Hoover blanked the third-seeded visiting Minutemen in the Class AA Region 2 Section 2 tournament.

Kirsten Belcher went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs, Presley McGhee drove in two runs and Courtney Fizer went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI for the Huskies. Hoover takes on the Roane County-Lewis County winner Friday at 7 p.m.

Nitro 8, Winfield 0: Bella Savilla struck out seven on her way to a one-hit shutout as second-seeded Nitro downed fourth-seeded Winfield in the Class AA Region 4 Section 1 tournament.

Kerrigan Moore went 2 for 4 with two doubles, Savilla and Logan Withrow each went 2 for 3 with a double and Haley Harr had two hits for the Wildcats (22-6).

Nitro hosts Wayne Friday at 6 p.m.

Buffalo 9, Sherman 8: The No. 2-seeded Bison plated three runs in top of the seventh to upset top-seeded Sherman on the road in the Class A Region 4 Section 2 tournament.

Brooklyn Persinger went 2 for 4 with two doubles, Katlynn Rasnake collected two hits and Maggie Bird doubled for Buffalo. Autumn Thompson smacked a two-run homer, Cloey Toney and Zoie Hess both doubled and Katlyn Jenkins went 2 for 4 for the Tide.

Greenbrier East 1, Woodrow Wilson 0: Freshman Taylor Graham tallied 13 strikeouts and Greenbrier East scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth to give the second-seeded Spartans a Class AAA Region 3 Section 2 win over the third-seeded Flying Eagles.

Olivia Ambler doubled and McKenzie Little and Abbi Mullins each added a hit for East (19-4). Morgan Coulter recorded the lone hit for Woodrow, and starter Haley Davis had eight strikeouts. East plays at Riverside Friday at 6 p.m.

Ripley 8, Parkersburg 3: Second-seeded Ripley used a controversial call in the bottom of the fourth and five runs in the fifth to overcome No. 3 seed Parkersburg in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 tournament.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Ripley’s Tori Hinzman bunted into a 5-4 fielder’s choice with two outs to seemingly end the inning, but after Parkersburg exited the field, the call was overturned for trapping. The Vikings seized the momentum as Paige Swisher laced an RBI single and Jaelyn Hunt hit a two-run single in the fourth and Grace Walsh smacked a solo homer and Hunt hit a two-run double in the fifth to help seal the win.

Swisher finished 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Hunt went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Hunt went 1 for 4 with a homer and RBI for Ripley. Janna Yost tallied two RBIs, Lexi Summers doubled in a run and Maggie Sauers tripled for the Big Reds.

Parkersburg and Ripley square off in the winner-take-all section final Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Baseball

Hurricane 12, Boyd County 2: Hurricane used 13 hits to put away Boyd County, Kentucky in five innings.

Noah Short, Jake Allen, Bo Adkins and Nate Dunham each knocked in two runs and Tyler Cox doubled for the Redskins (23-3). Brandon Barber hit a solo homer and Phillip Fryer tripled for Boyd.

Riverside 16, Charleston Catholic 7: Chris Buchanan and Chase Thomas each drove in five runs to boost Riverside to a home win.

Buchanan went 2 for 3 with two doubles and Thomas went 2 for 2 with two homers, while Ryan McNeal had two RBIs and Jake Petry went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Warriors. Brandon Combs went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Parker Ross went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Irish.

South Charleston 11, Huntington 5: Corey Lanier went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs as South Charleston won at home.

Max Arbogast drove in three runs, Tyson Burke brought in two runs and Noah Morris hit an RBI double for the Black Eagles. Grant Beckett, Braxton Johnson and Evan Juniper each had an RBI and Trey Straub went 2 for 4 for the Highlanders.

Herbert Hoover 9, Sissonville 2: Herbert Hoover had 12 hits as the Huskies took down visiting Sissonville.

Derick Chapman hit a solo homer, Brandon Mullins went 3 for 3, Evan McGraw and Luke Stricker each collected two hits and Zach Spencer and Gavin Robertson both doubled for Hoover.

Valley 14, Van 7: Spencer Dean went 3 for 3 with a home run and six RBIs as Valley picked up a home win.

Nate Kincaid went 4 for 5 with a double and four RBIs and Adam Falbo went 2 for 2 with three RBIs for the Greyhounds, who cranked out 13 hits. Caleb Green went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Brady Grant and Caleb Price each knocked in a run, and Taylor Jarrell, Chris Harless and Chris Martin each tallied two hits for the Bulldogs.
